200-Year-Old Echoes in Muslim Center Uproar

The protests against Park51 closely mirror Protestant opposition to
the oldest Catholic church in New York State, the church’s pastor
says.

I am not sure how true this is, but I must admit as much as I love Catholic Churches (not that this particular Church is Catholic) I would definitely want to live in one.

Preventing Harmful Restraint and Seclusion in Schools Act

Dear  Joshua,

Take Action, Call Now!

Take Action

I am excited to report that the Preventing Harmful Restraint and Seclusion in Schools Act has been scheduled for a vote on the floor of the House of Representatives this week. This is an important bill, which sets minimum safety standards for children with autism in schools, and now that the bill is up for a vote, we need our legislators to hear our voice.

Please take a moment to call and email your Representative and ask them to keep families affected by autism in mind while voting on this important legislation.

As always, thank you for your commitment to advocate on behalf of people affected by autism.

Sincerely,
Jeff Sell
Vice President, Public Policy

March 1, 2010 - Unstrange Minds

On Friday, February 28, 2010, I began reading the book "Unstrange
Minds - Remapping the World of AUTISM" by Richard Roy Grinker. The
book is filled with hope about how to view a child with autism and to
understand how one must cope with it. I hope this book can help me on
my journey with my very own daughter who also has autism.

About the Book from http://www.unstrange.com/ :

Anthropologist Grinkerfs affecting investigation communicates a much-
needed truth: autism is both a disease (biological) and an illness,
i.e., a life-altering experience completely at odds with society. Hope
then comes like a bullet via vignettes of parents from America to
Korea whofve adapted to their childrenfs gunstrangeh worldviews.
